24 Hours After Defection, Accord Party Declares Adeleke Sole Contestant in Primary

Hours after the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his new party, Accord Party, has handed him the express ticket to fly its flag in next year’s gubernatorial election.

The screening committee of the Accord Party, on Wednesday in Osogbo, cleared the governor as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket in the race to the Government House, Osogbo, in 2026.

The National Organising Secretary of the party and Chairman of the screening committee, Mr. Ibe Thankgod confirmed the development in a press statement issued in Osogbo, capital of Osun State.

Thankgod said Adeleke met all the requirements for nomination and was subsequently cleared as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket. He also described the governor as a “worthy gubernatorial aspirant” of the party.

The certificate of clearance was subsequently presented to Governor Adeleke by the committee chairman.

An elated Governor Adeleke thanked the screening committee and the party leadership for the privilege, promising to work hard and diligently to lead the Accord Party to victory in next year’s gubernatorial poll.

“I am ready for the primary, and I am ready for the general elections,” Adeleke declared. “We are winning by God’s grace.”

The Crest recalls that Adeleke announced his defection to the Accord Party on Tuesday night, after resigning his membership of the People’s Democratic Party on December 2, 2025.
