Finally, Tinubu appoints Ambassadors
President Bola Tinubu has nominated three eminent Nigerians as non-career ambassadors as part of ongoing adjustments to Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.
The nominees are: Kayode Aare (Ogun State), a former Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State) and Ayodele Oke (Oyo State)-a retired career diplomat and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.
This was contained in a letter Tinubu transmitted to the upper chamber and read on the floor during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, the President urged the Senate to give the nominations expeditious consideration in line with constitutional provisions guiding the appointment of ambassadors.
Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the nominees to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening.
The committee is expected to scrutinize their credentials, engage them on Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, and report back to the full chamber within one week.
The confirmation, once completed, will add to the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the foreign service and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements globally.
