Idowu Olayinka, Former UI VC, Mourns Dr. Obisesan Daramola, Former ILEGSOSA National President

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, has paid glowing tribute to the immediate National President of the Ilesa Grammar School Old Students Association, ILEGSOSA, Dr. Obisesean Daramola, an elder statesman and renowned engineer, eulogising his phenomenal contributions to the continuous development of Ilesa Grammar School, Nigeria, and humanity in general.

Olayinka, a Professor of Applied Geophysics who served the University of Ibadan between 2015 and 2020 as its 12th substantive Vice Chancellor, is the current President of Ilesa Grammar School Old Students Association set of 1970-1994.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Prof. Olayinka expressed sadness and shock at the passing of Dr. Daramola, a prominent leader in Ijesaland.

The announcement of the news of the passage of the immediate past National President of the Ilesa Grammar School Old Students’ Association, Engr. Dr. Obisesan Daramola came as a rude shock.

On behalf of the 1974 set of the Old Students, we mourn his transition to eternity. We commiserate with his widow, children and grandchildren.

President Daramola came across as a passionate and committed lover of ILEGRAMS. In spite of all his achievements in life, he rallied all the Old Students to support his pet projects including the completion of the National Secretariat. He visited me in person on a number of occasions and we remain eternally grateful to him for what the Executive, under his able leadership, achieved.  A WhatsApp message he sent to me in February 2026 clearly itemised what the Team Daramola achieved.

Baba will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him while he was alive. His good deeds will remain a Testament to his love for our School where he passed out 61 years ago. Rest in perfect peace, Sir.
