Iran warns of broad regional retaliation if U.S. hits domestic infrastructure
Iran has issued a strong warning that any U.S. military strike on its domestic infrastructure would prompt a sweeping response targeting infrastructure across the Middle East, according to statements reported by Fars News Agency.
Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said Tehran would respond forcefully to any attack on its territory.
“Destroy infrastructure, we will destroy whatever infrastructure remains in the region,” Zolfaghari said.
He also reiterated Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the country would not tolerate what it views as foreign interference in the strategically important waterway.
“We would under no circumstances allow the U.S., as a foreign and extra-regional country, to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz. This is Iran’s unbreakable red line,” he stated.
Zolfaghari added that Iran’s response to any military action would go beyond proportional retaliation. Instead, he warned of what he described as a “superior blow,” saying any response would be “more severe, wider and more destructive than ever.”
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran over regional security and maritime activity in the Persian Gulf. Despite reports of a memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing tensions and creating a path toward a broader peace agreement, the two sides have continued to exchange military strikes.
The latest statements underscore the fragile security environment in the region and raise concerns that further escalation could have significant consequences for regional stability and global energy markets if diplomatic efforts fail.
