Former US president Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to his bones and further into his body, his son Hunter Biden has said.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC late on Friday, Hunter Biden said the illness had taken a “very painful” toll on his father, who has remained politically active since leaving office in 2025.
“It’s very debilitating in many respects,” Hunter Biden said. “But he’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing. He so believes in this country.”
Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer discovered during a routine medical examination.
The former president later completed a course of radiation treatment in October. His office also said he had undergone a separate procedure to remove skin cancer cells from his forehead.
The Biden family and his office have provided few further details about his health since then.
In June, Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, told NBC’s Today programme that her husband was expected to live with cancer for the rest of his life.
Biden, 82, was the oldest president in US history when he left office. His aides have faced criticism over allegations that they were not sufficiently transparent about his health, an issue that became a significant factor in his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential election.
The former president is also due to publish a memoir on 1 November.
