A judge of the Kebbi State High Court, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, who was abducted by suspected gunmen, has regained his freedom after spending about one week in captivity.
Justice Bunza was reportedly released on Monday, bringing relief to his family, colleagues and members of the judiciary.
A family member confirmed his release to Vanguard on Monday, saying the judge had returned home safely a few hours earlier.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative said.
The family expressed appreciation to friends, relatives, the Kebbi State Judiciary and security agencies for their support and prayers during the judge’s captivity.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member said.
Details surrounding Justice Bunza’s release were not immediately available.
It also remained unclear whether a ransom was paid to secure his freedom, as neither the family nor the authorities disclosed such information.
The family said further details regarding the circumstances of his release would be made available later.
