Ondo Residents Beg Gov Akeredolu to Lift Curfew on Community

Residents of Ikare-Akoko, in Akoko Northeast Local Government have appealed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to lift the 24-hour curfew imposed on their community, last week

Akeredolu imposed the curfew after a communal clash led to killing of five persons, burning of six vehicles, buildings and looting of shops.

The residents said they wanted to continue their normal life.

Heavy security presence was noticed in the community when our reporter visited the place.

It was observed that security personnel only allow those with medical condition to seek medical attention.

Schools have resumed new academic session in Ondo State, but schools in Ikare-Akoko are shut due to the curfew.

Crisis erupted in the community after a New Year carnival turned bloody over the use of Okoja area for the ceremony

This is the third timewithin eight months that Governor Akeredolu will impose curfew on Ikare-Akoko.

He imposed curfew on the communitlastMay after violence erupted over the Olokoja chieftaincy title.

Four persons were killed and others injured in the crisis

Another curfew was imposed in November last year following crisis that erupted during the annual Ikare festival.

Three persons were killed and four injured.

The recurrent crisis in Ikare-Akoko has been linked to the supremacy battle between Oba Adeleke Adegbite-Adedoyin II, the Owa-Ale of Iyometa, Ikare and Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh.
