Wives of Kidnapped Ilorin Drivers Turn Beggars to Raise N20m Ransom
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Thursday, confirmed the kidnap of four tipper lorry drivers from a farm on the outskirts of Ilorin, the state capital.
Reports quoting sources corroborated by the police, said the drivers were abducted, last Saturday, by gunmen who dressed in military uniform at a site where they had gone to collect sand to supply to their customers
The victims, the sources further stated, were members of the Oyun garage branch of the Association of Quarry and Sand Dealers, Ilorin.
The kidnappers, who later contacted their families, demanded a ransom of N5 million on each of the four drivers.
On Thursday, however, reports emerged that some women who claimed to be wives of the abducted drivers, stormed the Oyun area of Sango-Kwara State Polytechnic road, Ilorin, on Wednesday, begging for alms from commuters and passersby ostensibly to raise money to pay the N20 million ransom.
