At least three people have been killed in separate attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in Anyiase community, Moon Council Ward, in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the attacks occurred between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, less than 24 hours after another reported assault on a rural community in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
The Supervisory Councillor for Kwande Local Government, Akerigba Lawrence, said the first attack took place at about 3:20 p.m. on Thursday when the assailants reportedly invaded farmlands in Anyiase.
According to him, two farmers identified as Asongo Nagwebe and Tarzan Agbahegh were killed during the attack.
Lawrence added that two other victims—a man and a woman—sustained serious injuries and were taken to the General Hospital in Jato-Aka for treatment.
He said the male victim later died while being referred to Makurdi for further medical care, bringing the death toll from the attack to three.
The local government official further alleged that the suspected attackers struck again on Friday morning by blocking the road at Kyoawen Junction, where they reportedly opened fire on a commercial bus conveying passengers.
The number of casualties from the roadside attack had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
