As part of its efforts to banish poverty, and promote general wellness and economic self-reliance, the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Yusuf, has inaugurated the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme.

The initiative, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawkinite, disclosed in a statement, on Tuesday, comes under the aegis of  the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.

According to Dawkinite, the initiative involves the distribution of livestock to women across the state’s 44 local government areas, aimed at supporting livestock entrepreneurship among vulnerable groups.

Governor Yusuf, while flagging off the initiative, elicited a roaring ovation as he announced that 7,158 goats would be distributed to 2,386 women in the current phase, with each beneficiary receiving three goats.

That’s not all. Under the programme, plans are at advanced stage to distribute 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youths in subsequent phases.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling poverty through innovative and inclusive initiatives. He described the programme as a cornerstone of efforts to empower women and youths while boosting economic independence.

The governor warned beneficiaries against misusing the livestock, stressing the importance of accountability and ensuring that the initiative achieves its intended goals.

“This initiative is not just about distributing livestock but about fostering a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces dependency on government aid,” the governor said.
