President Muhammadu Buhari has implored Nigerians to embrace peace and work towards credible elections next year. The president who said this in his national broadcast on Democracy Day also listed achievements of his administration in the area of war on corruption, battling series of insecurity and bringing the economy back on its feet. President Buhari said this among controversies about whether his administration has done enough in the past three years. Though Lai Mohammed , minister of information and culture had said that the administration has faithfully delivered an its promises, the opposition has been vociferous in its criticism of government not addressing the promises made to the electorate. Some have even launched campaigns against the return of Buhari at the polls next year. The hullabaloo has raised concerns about a peaceful conduct of the polls in 2019.
But the president admonished Nigerians to be of good conduct: “Let me use this opportunity to urge us all to conduct ourselves , our wards and our constituencies with utmost sense of fairness, justice and peaceful co-existence such that we will have not only hitch-free elections but also a credible and violence free process.”
