If the event of Friday, June 1, 2018, was a measure of what to expect in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, then, opponents of the national football team, the Super Eagles, have one hell of a fight awaiting them.
Eagles’ popularity so soars every passing hour that when the team’s new Nike kit was launched and offered for sale in London, Friday morning, fans lapped it up in minutes! The shirt alone went for 64.95 pounds!
According to agency reports, hundreds of fans besieged and queued excitedly outside London’s Nike Town store in Oxford Street just to buy the brand new kit.
Super Eagles golden leg, Alex Iwobi, who plies his trade in Arsenal, modelled the kit. Many footballs buffs have rated the kit as “the best” of all the kits that would be seen in Russia during the biggest global football fiesta holding between June 14 and July 15.
Dues to huge demand, Nike had pushed the release date back earlier in the week. When Nike eventually opened its shop in Oxford Street for fans, the kit sold out in minutes. Before it went on sale, Friday, the company had got at least three million pre-order.
The demand is so huge that Nike has put ‘sold out’ on its website.
The company had delayed the sales to forestall the production and sales of fake replicas.
