WATER-TIGHT SECURITY AS OSINBAJO FLAGS OFF FAYEMI’S CAMPAIGN
BY ABIODUN NEJO/Ado Ekiti
Security has been beefed up in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is scheduled to officially unveil the party governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and present the party flag to him.
Armed security personnel have taken over virtually all strategic locations in the capital, particularly around the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium area, venue of the official commencement of APC governorship campaign.
Osinbajo is expected to lead ministers and APC governors, including the Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, who is the chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for Ekiti State Governorship Election, at the event.
The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, will also lead national and south west zonal leaders of the party to the mega rally.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, has warned against any attempt from any quarters to foment trouble.
He said the warning has become imperative against the background of alleged move by the ruling party to instigate some segments of workers against Dr. Fayemi in a campaign of calumny, including mobilising thugs to cause violence in the state, ahead of the July 14 governorship poll.
The campaign outfit particularly cautioned Governor Ayodele Fayose against any act that could stoke violence in the run-up to the election, saying: “We are aware of moves to instigate some segments of the society against Dr. Kayode Fayemi to cause disaffection between him and large populations of Ekiti people, particularly workers, all in an attempt to orchestrate a deep-seated resentment against the APC candidate.
“We are also aware of moves to set up fake fifth columnists to act as saboteurs to APC’s electioneering activities, including using fake APC members to stoke violence to disrupt June 19, 2018 mega rally at the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.”
Olujobi said: “The trend started last week when thugs bearing guns stormed Ado-Ikere Road in the night to destroy Fayemi’s campaign billboard in front of the hotel of former APC governorship aspirant, Dr Wole Oluyede, including threatening the owner for supporting Fayemi and not Prof. Olusola Eleka of PDP only to be followed in the night of same day with the murder of an APC supporter in Ado-Ekiti.”
