Former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said that though he has left office; he sees in APC , ” a strong party, a united party and a passionate party.
This is just as President Muhammadu Buhari praised the former NWC members of the party for their role in the party’s victory in 2015 general election.
Oyegun who was addressing delegates at the party’s convention said despite the reports in the media that the party is in crisis, the convention has proved that “APC is one family, united and strong”.
Oyegun said: “If you read the social media, if you read the headlines, you will think that the party is going to suffer implosion, but the situation in the party is colourful, one happy family. I thank you all for this privilege. Mr President I thank you especially for the opportunity to work closely with you, interact with you and the support you gave all the time.
“Today is a day of expressing my deep gratitude to all of you.I will start with the two founding fathers of this party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande, Dr Ogbonaya Onu and Prince Tony Momoh of the CPC. You were the key leaders of political parties that unite for the process of this country.. Of course, the later addition of nPDP and a faction of APGA
” I look right, I look left, I see one strong party. I see a vibrant party, I see a party of passionate followers because of the principled leadership in spite of insinuations, fake stories that have been hauling at its direction.
” APC has completed phase 1. It has started the second phase and the future is bright for APC,” he said.
President Muhammadu Buhari thanked the former executive of the party and urged whoever is aggrieved among the contestants at the convention to take party’s interest above their own personal interest.
” I thanked everybody, all our delegates, those who emerged in the ward, local government and state congresses . I thanked the outgoing executive of our party especially those that did not seek re- election.
” I want to assure everyone here that despite grievances during our congresses our party will emerge stronger,” Buhari said.
Meanwhile, the Convention Appeal Committee has encouraged aspirants that are not satisfied with the election at the convention to feel free to approach it for consideration.
