President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Kayode Fayemi for winning the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State. A statement by Femi Adesina, special adviser on media and publicity commended the All Progressives Congress, APC and Fayemi for “the hard-fought victory after a dignified campaign.” He also praised the people of Ekiti for their maturity and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.
The president gave kudos to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for good preparation and its neutrality in the conduct of the polls. He also commended the security agencies for creating the right atmosphere for people to exercise their civic responsibility.
Buhari who appreciated local and foreign observers for their vigilance, implored the losing side to be gallant in conceding defeat. He however said that should they have misgivings about the outcome of the election they should seek redress through the constitutional channels.
