A 16 year-old boy murdered his single father after being asked to tidy up his bedroom, police say. Jeffrey Dale Wanca reportedly shot his father Chad Wanca, 43, dead and also struck his 12 year-old brother Hunter with another bullet.
The horrific incident happened at the Wanca family home in Toney, Alabama, on Saturday, with Hunter in a critical condition at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Chad Wanca’s father Rick McNamara told WAFF: ‘It was a domestic dispute between father and son about cleaning things up and trying to be a responsible teenage figure in his life, which he had down pretty good.
‘It’s just a your typical teenager not wanting to do things to help. It escalated.’ Chad pictured with his younger son Hunter, who was also shot and remains critically ill in hospital.
Chad’s mom Linda McNamara, who is married to Rick, said she still loves Jeffrey despite the alleged murder.
She told WHNT: ‘I’m going to the hospital. I hope I’ll be able to get in and see my grandson. Couple had fist fight with mother bear and her cub after animals broke into their home ‘I’d like to go to the jail as well and see my other grandson. I want to talk to him. I don’t know where his head is at. I love my grandsons. I love them both.’
The stricken grandma added: ‘Chad was a good father. He loved his sons so much. He will be terribly missed by his family and his friends. ‘Please pray for my grandsons, as they need all prayers and support they can get.’
Sheriff’s deputies were called out to the scene by multiple concerned neighbors who witnessed the deadly commotion. When they arrived, Jeffrey walked out towards them with his hands raised. He has been charged as an adult with the murder of his dad and attempted murder of his brother, and is being held on a combined $200,000 bond.
