Akpabio: How involved in the alleged impeachment move
BY TAIWO FAROTIMI
Reports say that Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom State has resigned his position as the minority leader in the Senate. He is preparing to decamp to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC on Thursday.
The development has increased suspicion in the camp of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki that Akpabio would play a major role in the impeachment of the Senate president and his deputy. In fact Senator Ben Murray-Bruce tweeted that Akpabio was warming up to take over the Senate presidency. That is far fetched, because such will upset the zoning formula of the APC. What could happen is that beyond the Senate president’s seat there may be some other changes in the leadership of the Senate to accommodate him.
Curiously enough majority of the senators who have gained entry into the Senate chambers are of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. The APC lawmakers believe to be planning to impeach the principal officers were not there. Could they be meeting somewhere else to carry out the impeachment.
There has been some quiet from both camps of Saraki and Ahmed Lawan, the Senate leader.
