The Crest can reveal, authoritatively, that the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, has been in a marathon meeting since Monday night at a location on Aso Drive, in the Asokoro District of the federal capital, Abuja, over the political chess game rocking the polity.
The meeting, according to an impeccable source, started at about 7p.m., Monday evening when Senators and other bigwigs of the ruling party began to arrive the venue. It adjourned at about 3a.m. Tuesday, and reconvened later at 11 a.m.
About 62 top notch members attended the meeting. Among those sighted by The Crest are APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former Gombe Governor-turned-legislator, Senator Danjuma Goje, Senators Shehu Sani, Magnus Abe, and Gbenga Ashafa.
Their facial expressions ranged from deadpan to smiley to excitement.
Topmost on the meeting’s agenda, the source confided in The Crest, was “the urgent need to fashion an appropriate and enduring response to the unfolding political situation in the country.”
However, the source refused to disclose if the agenda included the alleged plot to impeach the Senate President on Tuesday, and the drama that unfurled when security operatives locked down the National Assembly and prevented federal lawmakers, their staff, and journalists from accessing the complex.
Events have been unfolding with a dizzying speed since the decamping of some of APC bigwigs, notably the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his loyalists, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, and many federal lawmakers, to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Since the cross-carpeting, there has been intense pressure on the decampees to vacate their seats or risk impeachment.
