Oshiomhole’s Suspension: APC Appoints Abiola Ajimobi Acting National Chairman
The All Progressives Congress, APC, reacted speedily, Tuesday night, to the suspension of its national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, appointing former Oyo State Governor, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi, to act in his stead.
The APC’s action came on the heels of ruling by the Court of Appeal in Abuja which upheld Oshiomhole’s suspension.
Earlier on Tuesday, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja and headed by Mr. Justice Mohammed Lamido, had dismissed Oshiomhole’s appeal against his suspension, declaring that the application lacked merit.
Ajimobi, who is ill and is reportedly being treated in hospital for COVID-19 infection, is the Deputy National Chairman (South).
The APC announced the decision to appoint the former Oyo State Governor in Oshiomhole’s stead via a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu.
The statement reads:
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.
“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.
According to Section 14.2. (iii), of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.
