Has Kemi Adeosun Resigned?
BY DAMOLA EMMANUEL
An online news portal, Uhuru Times, Friday, reported that Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, had thrown in the towel.
Quoting an authoritative source, the online news medium reported that not only has the Minister resigned, she, in fact, may be arrested and charged for forgery any moment from now.
The Crest recalls that Mrs. Adeosun has been in the eye of a big storm for the past 69 days when a popular online newspaper, Premium Times, reported that she forged her NYSC certificate.
Since then, the public has been up in arms against the Minister, asking for her resignation, and prosecution.
Authorities at the National Youth Service Corps have not helped matters. Sixty-nine days after, they have been unable to confirm whether Mrs. Adeosun’s NYSC exemption certificate was fake or genuine.
A senior aide of the Minister denied knowledge of her purported resignation, saying: “It is not true.”
“You should notice that we have not spoken on this matter since July 7 when the issue of NYSC certificate broke,” the aide continued. “It is an agenda that they are pursuing and we will not help them to authenticate that.
“Í am here with you. You can also see the other aides and security details at their duty posts. Even the Minister is in her office right now carrying on with her work. Don’t mind them.”
The Director of Information in the Ministry, Mr Hassan Dodo, said he had no information concerning Adeosun’s alleged resignation.
Another senior official, who would not want to be quoted, also insisted that “there is nothing like that”.
