BY ABIODUN NEJO

The Lions Club International has donated relief materials worth hundreds of thousands of naira and cash gifts to victims of the recent flood incident in Kogi State.

The items gathered for the victims in the neighbouring Kogi State by the Lions Club Region 10 chairperson (District 404 B2) in Ado Ekiti, Lion Oyedeji Olajubu, included cloths, bags, caps and other household materials and cash.

Over 53,000 persons were displaced in Kogi State last month following the flood incident.

Olajubu said the materials would be collated by the club from other districts for onward transmission to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The chairperson noted that the club embarked on the programme as their responsibility of helping the less privileged and ways giving back to the society.

He said: “Our club is formed with the aim of helping people in the society. The effect of flood and natural disasters have not limited itself to Europe but now to Africa and to us in Nigeria.

“This year, we have started in the states ravaged by flood, including Kogi. We decided to organize a programme called Lions Alert where we come together to see a way of assisting victims of this flood.

“All Lions in this region came together and gathered all required materials which will be sent to our office in Lagos for onward transmission to NEMA in Kogi to provide the little succor for those their property have been damaged. We even add N50,000.

“We see this gesture as our own little way of assisting the victims in Kogi State as our way of extending the Lions hand.”

Olajubu advised individuals and groups in the society to extend their hands by helping people in the society who are in dire needs in any capacity.
