Buhari/Osinbajo Continuity Group Applauds Iyantan’s Appointment
The Buhari/Osinbajo Continuity Group (BOCOG) has lauded the confirmation by the Senate of the appointment of BOCOG Director General, Prince Diran Iyantan, as Commissioner Designate of the National Population Commission (NPC).
BOCOG Director of Communication, Steve Bayode, expressed confidence that through the new position, Iyantan would ensure “united response to many critical problems of today”.
Bayode said in a statement in Abuja that this is more so in view of “the linkages between population and developmental issues like housing, health, education, agriculture, food, economy, energy, environment, transportation, security, employment, urbanization and so forth. This in effect means the effect of population on the well being and quality of life of all Nigerians”.
He said: “In the face of the challenges posed by rapid population growth, your commission will definitely help to achieve sustainable development and a higher quality of life for all Nigerians, by promoting appropriate population-related policies to meet the needs of current generations, without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs.
“The ongoing threat to achieve sustained economic growth, poverty eradication, protection of the environment and provision of quality of social services, achieve a balance between population growth rate and available resources, improve the productive health of all Nigerians and achieve a balanced and integrated urban and rural development require that the NPC stands strong in its efforts and moral leadership,” he stated.
Bayode, who expressed confidence in the ability of Iyantan to deliver in view of his sterling leadership qualities, said: “We have no doubt you’ll discharge these duties well and effectively. We also firmly believe that together we will establish a tradition of cooperation, built on trust and respect, between BOCOG and the NPC, which will serve as a solid foundation for our future work during your term in office”.
He stated: “We members of BOCOG congratulate you on your appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent confirmation by the Nigeria Senate as Commissioner in the NPC.
“We send our best wishes for your continued wisdom, strength and commitment in performing the important and responsible duties of this position.
“We are very pleased that your long-standing experience and determined efforts to provide support for President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s reelection bid as well as to mobilize grassroots support for the President and VP have been highly evaluated, and rightly so.
“We wish you the best of success in your new challenging responsibilities. Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,” BOCOG stated.
