Minimum Wage: Governors peg it at N22,500
After several deadlocks and twist and turns, the impasse between the federal government and organised labour over a mutually acceptable national minimum wage seemed to be nearing a resolution.
Governors of the 36 states of the federation, Tuesday night, resolved to pay N22,500 as new minimum wage to workers.
The decision was reached following a three-hour meeting of the governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
However, labour was yet to respond as at press time.
Labour had insisted on a new minimum wage of N30, 000 and threatened to resume their suspended nationwide strike if their demand was not met by November 16, 2018.
Nigerians had heaved a sigh of relief when the organised labour suspended its strike over the issue on Sunday, September 30, 2018, believing that a new minimum wage would soon be announced.
