All hell has been let loose in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital as dare-devil thugs are reported to have invaded the state’s House of Assembly.
The thugs who are armed with dangerous weapons also burnt tyres to disrupt regular movement into the assembly complex.
Anti-riot policemen who arrived the scene moments ago, are having hectic time to quell the riotous situation as they are yet to bring the menace under control.
According to reports, the bedlam is coming after the speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, received the court judgement sacking a state lawmaker who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the House of Assembly has said.
The sacked lawmaker, Idongesit Ituen, represented the Itu state constituency.
The State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier issued a statement, based on intelligence report, that there were plans by the APC to use thugs and cause a breach of peace, thereby stalling proceedings at the chambers.
Gov Udom Emmanuel on his part has repeatedly warned politicians against violence, maintaining that nothing short of peace and unity is needed to move Akwa Ibom forward, irrespective of political affiliations or aspirations.
The state’s APC is yet to make any statement on the sacked lawmaker or the chaos that has enveloped the House of Assembly as at the time of publishing the story.
