Kidnappers Hit Ondo Again, Abduct Another Poly Lecturer, 2 Others
Ondo states residents have cried to the Inspector General of Police over the menace of kidnappers in the state. The dare-devil kidnappers struck again in parts of Ondo State at the weekend, abducting another Polytechnic lecturer of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, RUGIPO, Owo, and two others.
The incidents which took place on Saturday, at different locations, are coming on the heels of the kidnap of four people barely one week ago in the state.
The lecturer identified as Michael Olopete from the Department of Marketing was abducted on the Owo-Ipele Road while the other two victims, whose identities are still unknown and who were said to be travellers, were kidnapped on the Owo-Ikare Expressway.
Four persons had last week been abducted by some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at Amurin Village on the Ikere-Owo Road, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
One of the victims was a lecturer at the RUGIPO, Taiwo Akinyemi, while the other three were members of staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
However, the medical workers regained freedom after ransom was paid by their families, while the lecturer died in the hands of the kidnappers.
Akinyemi’s body was discovered last week Sunday and buried on Thursday.
The Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said the command had commenced investigation into the incident.
“I don’t have the details yet, but it is true that it happened and we have commenced investigations,” he said.
