Nigeria Dominate CAF 2018 Legends Award

Nigeria dominated the Confederation of African Football Legends award announced at the African Footballer of the Year award night that took place in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday.

Four Nigerians were named among the 11 winners, the highest by any country with Cameroon coming second with two.

Kanu Nwankwo, who won the African Footballer of the Year award on two occasions in 1996 and 1999 was named alongside the late Rashidi Yekini, who won the award in 1993 and was represented by his daughter.

Emmanuel Amuneke won the award in 1994 while Victor Ikpeba, 1997 winner completed the four Nigerians on the podium.

Cameroon had two legends in Samuel Eto’o, winners on four occasions (2003 to 2005 and 2010) and Patrick Mboma who won it in 2000.

Others are Egypt star, Mohammed Salah, Liberia president and former World, European and African Footballer of the Year award winner, George Weah, two-time winner, El-Hadji Diof of Senegal, Malian star, Fredrick Kanoute, 2007 winner and Didier Drogba (Cote D’Ivoire), who also won the award twice in 2006 and 2009.

Meanwhile, no Nigeria player was nominated in the Africa Finest 11 of the year showing the level the country football has degenerated into.
