Court Grants Dino Melaye Bail on Health Grounds

…Clerk of NASS to Stand Surety

Respite may have found a place in the affairs of controversial Senator Dino Melaye at last as a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has granted him bail on health grounds.

The lawmaker  from Kogi has had running battles with the Nigeria Police in the last couple of weeks beginning with a siege to his house, dramatic colapse at the Police Headquarters in Abuja and the subsequent drama at the Hospitals.

But Justice Yusuf Halilu of the court, in his ruling, ordered the Kogi West senator to produce three sureties including the Clerk of the National Assembly who must produce a written undertaking to produce him in court at any given time.

The other sureties, the court also ruled, must be residents of the FCT with landed properties in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The senator, who was accused of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, surrendered to the Nigeria Police Force on January 4, after the police eight days siege to his Abuja residence. He was admitted at the police hospital, Abuja where he was receiving care before he was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) headquarters.
