The Social Democratic Party, SDP, wielded the big stick, on Tuesday and expelled one of its presidential aspirants, and former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana as well as Acting National Chairman, Supo Shonibare.
It also suspended its presidential candidate and former Cross Rivers State governor, Mr. Donald Duke, who it accused of overtly critical and disrespectful of the party and its hierarchy.
The action, which takes immediate effect, were announced by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Yemi Akinbode, at a news briefing in Abuja.
According to a report monitored in Lagos on Channels Television, Akinbode said Gana and Shonibare were expelled for engaging in anti-party activities. While Shonibare was accused of being the arrowhead of a splinter group, Gana was accused of setting up a parallel National Executive Committee in the party.
Only last week, the party, in a surprise move, endorsed President Mohammadu Buhari for a second term in office.
