Election postponement: Fayose says Mahmood Must Quit

Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, has called on the chairman of the commission, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to resign with immediate effect.

The former governor made the call while reacting to the postponement, in the wee hours of Saturday, of the general elections scheduled to begin today by INEC.

In a post on twitter on Saturday, Fayose who is being tried for corruption at the Federal High Court in Lagos for corruption, accused INEC of waiting till the 11th hour to carry out the order of its masters, President Muhammadu Buhari and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami.

INEC in the early hours of Saturday postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections till 23rd February while the governorship and state assembly elections were shifted from 2 March to 9 March.
