JUST IN: INEC Declares Ondo South Senatorial Election Inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Ondo South Senatorial election inconclusive.

The People’s Democratic Party Candidate, Nicholas Tofowomo, was leading in the results declared across the six local government areas with 79,029 votes and his closest rival, the APC candidate and Incumbent senator,Yele Omogunwa scoring 51,993.

The INEC returning officer for the district, Prof. Kayode Onifade on Sunday said elections were cancelled in 42 polling units due to some irregularities.

The commission said a winner could not be declared when the total number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units which is 28,047 were above the margin between the PDP and the APC. The margin stood at 27,036 votes.

Meanwhile, the campaign organization of the PDP candidate has rejected the decision of INEC to declare the senatorial election inconclusive, describing it as plans to undermine the decisions of voters in the area.

The spokesman of the campaign, Olumide Akinrinlola, said his principal had won the election and should be declared winner by the electoral body.

Akinrinlola wondered why the Commission would cancelled votes in polling units in senatorial election but declared winner in all the three house of Representatives seat in the district in an election held simultaneously.

” The returning officer,Prof. Kayode Onifade said he doesn’t know names of those canceled polling units upon enquiry not until he gets to Akure, the state capital.

” Unfortunately, winners were declared by INEC in the 3 federal constituencies in the Senatorial district of which the house of  representatives and senate elections were held same date , same places and same time.

” We are protesting this daylight robbery and attempt to undermine the wishes of the electorates in Ondo South.

” We advise our people to keep qualm. We will resist this satanic agenda by INEC in collaboration with APC to put Ondo south in crisis,” he said.
