Edo Polls: Atiku Condemns Police Siege on Wike, Says It’s Unfair

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 presidential poll, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has stoutly condemned Friday’s police siege on the hotel of River State Governor Nyesom Wike in Benin City, the Edo State capital, describing it as unfair.

Atiku, who took to his twitter handle to protest the siege, said the police power show did not conform with the promise of a free and fair election widely bandied in the run-up to today’s poll.

“A promise of free & fair election cannot be mere lip service,” Atiku said in the tweet. “It’s a commitment & should be demonstrated by way of equal access & restriction to every stakeholder. Blockading the hotel of  @OfficialPDPNig governors in the eve of the Edo election isn’t a good way to show fairness.”
