The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE has dissociated itself from a supposed award allegedly given with its collaboration earlier in the month. A certain Foundation for Transparency and Accountability, a Non Governmental Organisation purportedly gave out awards on 10th May, 2019, which it claimed to have done ‘in collaboration with Nigeria Guild of Editors’. Note that the NGO cited Nigeria Guild of Editors, as against Nigerian in the authentic umbrella body of editors, which may signal the lack of intimate knowledge of the Guild.
The Guild in a release signed by Mary Atolagbe, its general secretary said it had nothing to do with the said award nor was it ever in any collaborative efforts with the NGO. According to the Guild scribe, “The Nigerian Guild of Editors hereby dissociates itself from the Foundation and the purported award on the 10thof May 2019.
The Nigerian Guild of Editors is not in any way privy to the foundation’s activities and does NOT know or recognise the Foundation for Transparency and Accountability.”
The Guild further stated that in its six decades of existence it “HAS NEVER given award to any individual, corporate, government or public entities.”
