As predicted by political buffs, and in accord to the wishes of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Senator Ahmed Lawan, has emerged President of the 9th Senate.
In a keenly contested election at the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly, Tuesday, Lawn., a ranking senator representing All Progressive Congress in the Yobe North Constituency of Yobe State, beat rival, Senator Ali Ndume by 79 votes to 28.
107 senators voted in the election.
Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan was first elected into the senate in 2007.
He was sworn in at 12.20p.m. By exactly 12.23 p.m., he received the gavel from the Clerk of the National Assembly to begin his tenure as President of the 9th session of Senate.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume was a member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011. He was elected to the Senate for Borno South, Borno State, in April 2011 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
