See Faces of Those Who Raped, Killed UNIBEN Student Uwaila

Six persons held in connection with the raping and murder of a 100-Level Microbiology student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa, in a Redeemed Christian Church of God building in Ihovbe quarters in Benin, have been arrested.

Omozuwa was reported to have gone to read in the church when she was killed.

She was raped and hit on the head with a fire extinguisher.

The suspects paraded by the police on Wednesday by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo are Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Tina Samuel, Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien and Collins Ulegbe.

The arrest, the police boss said, was the result of the efforts to get to the root of the crime.

His words: “The matter is of great concern to the Inspector General of Police,  Muhammed Adamu, who sent homicide experts to work with our policemen in Benin.

“What we are seeing today is a result of the efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime, and today, I announce to you that the perpetrators have been arrested.”

Kokumo said the post-mortem confirmed that the deceased was raped.

He noted that the parade of the suspects had made good the promise to the people of the state that the police would do all in their powers to unmask those behind Uwaila’s death.

“I assured the good people of Edo State that we will leave no stone unturned to unravel the mystery behind this,” he said.

The police boss confirmed that the suspects have made ‘confessional statements’.
