Shortly before it adjourned plenary till September 24, 2019, Tuesday, the senate announced the composition of its standing committees.
The committees are 69 in number, and cut across party lines.
President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, made the disclosure, Tuesday, as the Senate adjourned plenary.
Significantly, and contrary to the position of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, that its party would not share positions with the opposition, some opposition senators got strategic committees.
For instance, Dino Melaye, a People’s Democratic Party, PDP, top notch, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, was named chairman for the Senate Committee on Aviation.
Some of the other committee chairmen include: Senators Barau Jibrin (Appropriations), Ali Ndume (Army ), Ibikunle Amosun (Capital Market), Ike Ekweremadu (Environment), Abubakar Kyari (FCT), Adeola Olamilekan (Finance), Ibrahim Oloriegbe (Health), Sikiru Oshinowo (Industry), Kashim Shettima (Interior), Teslim Folarin (Local content), Adedayo Adeyeye (Media and Public Affairs), Bassey Akpan (Petroleum Resources upstream) and Mathew Urhoghide (Public Accounts), among others.
However, Tuesday’s announcement was for Committee Chairmen and their deputies.
The composition of the membership of the committees were still being fine-tuned, Senate President Lawan further announced.
