End of a Dream! Appeal Court Annuls Mohammed Abacha’s ‘election’ as Kano PDP Guber Candidate

...Declares Sadiq Wali as validly elected candidate

The ambition of Mohammed Abacha, son of the late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha, to be governor of Kano State, crashed, Friday, at the Court of Appeal sitting in Kano, shattering to irredeemable pieces.

In a unanimous judgement, the appellate sacked the junior Abacha as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State.

The court set aside the judgment of a High Court that endorsed Abacha as the party’s standard bearer in the state.

Consequently, the Court of Appeal ordered that Sadiq Wali, who had earlier been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, remains the valid gubernatorial candidate.

The Justice Usman Musale-led three-man panel, while delivering the anonymous judgement, held that Abacha had no locus standi to challenge the primary election that produced Wali as he, Abacha, never participated in the process.
