How Gunmen Set 240 Inmates From Kogi Prison Free —Nigerian Correctional Service
More facts have emerged on how dare-devil gunmen stormed Nigerian Correctional Service in Kabba, Kogi State and set free 240 inmates.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) the Sunday attack was like a horror movie as the gunmen killed military men guiding the place before unleashing havoc the on prison officers. The assailants thereafter set the prisoners free.
A statement released by the service, through the NCoS spokesperson, Francis Enobore, said: “The Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kabba, Kogi State, has been attacked by yet-to-be identified gunmen and 240 inmates forcefully released.”
Enobore said around (10:45 pm) on Sunday, numerous attackers “engaged the armed guards in a fierce gun battle,” AFP reports.
Investigations were under way to find the escapees, he added.
It is not clear who carried out the attack but central and northwest Nigeria have been terrorised by criminal gangs for years.
Large prison outbreaks are not uncommon in Nigeria.
On April 5, 2021, gunmen raided Owerri police headquarters, Imo State, freeing more than 1,800 inmates.
