Nigeria Can Develop COVID-19 Vaccine – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said, Nigeria can produce the vaccine for the treatment of COVD-19, if the government paid more attention to education, by investing more in it, at both national and sub-national levels.

The Union National President, Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi, revealed this in Abeokuta after he led members of the association to donate 1,000 pieces of 125ml bottled hand sanitisers to the Ogun state government.

He said the country has some of the best minds in the medical field and behavioural sciences that only require quality investment for them to deliver quality services.

Ogunyemi said, from the pandemic, it is clear to Nigeria, that investment in education can yield unquantifiable dividends.

The Union National President also led the members from the Lagos Zone to donate items to the state’s Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

He said, “For instance, conscious and determined investment in university education at national and sub-national levels would give our country quality medical scientists, behavioural scientists, creative scholars and other creams of informed citizens who can respond intelligently to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To achieve better results, we believe Nigerian governments at the federal and state levels need to work with public intellectuals and patriotic trade unions like ASUU.’’
