Man, 39, Steals 2-month-Old Baby, Nabbed In Ogun
A 39-year-old man is now in police net in Ogun State after he quietly sneaked into a woman’s bedroom in the night and stole a two-month-old baby while the mother was deep asleep.
Mother luck ran against the suspect, Olakunle Agbaje when the mother woke and raised the alarm having realized that her baby was nowhere to be found.
Police in Ogun State said, the suspect sneaked into House No. 32, Odukoya Street, Adesan area of Mowe, on October 5, 2019, where the mother and child were asleep.
“However, just by a stroke of luck, the nursing mother awoke and was shocked at the sudden disappearance of her baby and raised an alarm, the police said in a statement. “Behold, the suspected baby thief was still within reach and was nabbed before escaping with the tot.”
According to a press statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrest of the suspect followed a distress call received by the police in Mowe Division that a woman, Marufu Taiwo, was sleeping in her room when the suspect, who resides at No. 13, Dennis Street, Arigbawonwo, sneaked into her room and took the baby boy from her side.
“While the suspect was tiptoeing out of the room, the mother of the child woke up and raised alarm, consequent upon which, a distress call was made to the police. On receiving the information, the DPO, Mowe Division, SP Marvis Jayeola, quickly moved to the scene with his men where the suspect was promptly arrested”, Oyeyemi stated.
The statement further added that, on interrogation, the suspect, who initially claimed that he inadvertently strayed into the woman’s room, later resorted to pleading for mercy and that he was probably under a spell.
Meanwhile, according to the statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
