Dino Melaye Vs Adeyemi: INEC Declares Kogi West Rerun Inconclusive
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday declared the rerun for Kogi West Senatorial District seat inconclusive.
The Returning Officer, Olayinde Lawal, who made the declaration said the number of cancelled votes was higher than the gap between the votes of the contestants.
Smart Adeyemi flew the flag of the All Progressive Congress in the election while Dino Melaye flew that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The INEC official announced the total votes won by Adeyemi as 80,118 votes, while Melaye polled 59,548 votes.
The difference, therefore, is 20,570 while the votes cancelled are 43,127.
The declaration of the election as inconclusive, Lawal stated, was in compliance with the Electoral Act.
He said the date for a supplementary election would be announced later.
