Tension has gripped the Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State gruesomely murdered two village heads, the chairman of a vigilante group, and two other persons by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Locals told The Crest that the five persons were murdered, Monday night, when some 30 gunmen invaded two communities-Bilango 1 and Bilango 2-in old Muri, killing their village traditional heads.

The traditional rulers killed were identified as Garba Dangari, the village head of Bilango 1, and Sarki Ali, village head of Bilango 2.

“The gunmen suspected to be kidnappers were said to be on a retaliation mission over the killing of suspected kidnappers by hunters and vigilante groups in the area,” a local vigilante who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

The gunmen also reportedly abducted five children in the area before escaping to neighbouring Plateau State.

Tears flowed freely as the victims, including the two traditional rulers, were buried on Tuesday just as security operatives were deployed to calm frayed nerves.

Spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP David Misal, confirmed the incident, adding that no arrest had been made.
