BREAKING: AIG Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim is Nigeria’s new Inspector General of Police
Although it has not been officially announced by the Presidency, the Commandant of the Police Academy, Kano, also an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, has succeed Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Adamu as the new Inspector-General of Police.
This is sequel to the retirement of Nasarawa-born Adamu which came into effect on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Although there was no official confirmation as at the time of filing this report, The Crest reliably gathered that 58-year-old Borno State-born Ibrahim topped the list of those recommended for the police top job and his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
And barring any last-minute alteration, the new super cop may be invited to the State House Abuja to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, in his new capacity as the Acting Inspector-General of Police. This is a ritual for those appointed to the country’s top security and military positions.
Born on November 26, 1962, Ibrahim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Jos, Plateau State.
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 15, 1988, and after successfully completing his training at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna, he was posted to Borno State Police Command where he under-went his one-year compulsory attachment at Biu Divisional Police Headquarters.
A crack investigator, Ibrahim who served in various Commands and formations across the country, was a member of the presidential investigation team on crude oil theft in Nigeria set up by then President Goodluck Jonathan. He was appointed Commissioner of Police for Zamfara State in 2019.
