At least 12 people were killed and dozens of passengers hospitalised after their plane crashed shortly after take-off in Kazakhstan on Friday, Kazakh officials said
The Bek Air aircraft lost altitude after leaving Almaty airport — en route to the capital Nur-Sultan —, hit a concrete fence and a two-storey building around 2.22 am CET.
There were 98 onboard and at least 54 were hospitalised, around 10 of them in a critical condition, officials said.
Russian media reported that the injuries included cerebral, hip, and lower limb injuries.
There was no fire, the airport specified.
Rescuers, medical services and law enforcement officers were at the scene and a government commission was created after the crash, the emergencies ministry in Kazakhstan said in a statement posted to their website.
According to Flightradar24, the plane was a Fokker 100.
