Again, Buhari overrules Power Minister, Sale Mamman, reverses Amobi’s sack as NBET Boss

Perhaps worried by the perception by Nigerians that the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, was on a vendetta mission, President Muhammadu Buhari has, once again, reversed another controversial action by the muck-raking Minister.

The President, Thursday, annulled the dismissal of Mrs. Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Limited (NBET).

A memo by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, conveyed the President’s decision to the controversial Minister.

The memo also ordered that Nnaemeka Eweluka, who had taken her position, vacate the seat for Amobi.

Mamman had ordered the Managing Director, Mrs. Marilyn Amobi, to step down from her position with immediate effect and ordered her probed.

Twenty-four hours earlier, the Minister had sacked Mrs. Damiloa Ogunbiyi, as the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA. The irregular action by the Minister drew the ire of Nigerians who alleged a witch-hunt.

Before the Minister’s surprise move, Mrs. Ogunbiyi had tendered her resignation to take up a new job at the United Nations as the organisation’s Special Representative for Sustainable Energy, and as CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll).

However, while ordering the reversal of Mamman’s controversial actions, President Buhari also directed that the agency be moved immediately from the Ministry of Power to the Ministry of Finance.

Since assuming duty at the Ministry of Powers, Mr. Mamman had been at daggers drawn with the top management  of the agency, making workers to think that he came to the Ministry to prosecute a vendetta war.
