Corona Virus: Infected Atiku’s Son Never Attended PDP Rally, Says Oyo Govt
Oyo State Government, Monday, rubbished reports in the social media that the son of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who tested positive for corona virus attended the unification rally held by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, recently at Ibadan, the state capital.
This was disclosed by Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, via a telephone interview with the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos State chapel, Mr. Demola Babalola.
Adisa disclosed that though a son of the former Vice President attended the rally, it was not the victim.
The clarification came on the heels of an assurance by the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Bashir Bello, who assured that the government was adequately prepared to contain the global pandemic.
During the referenced telephone chat, Adisa said:
“We want to place on record for the notice of the general public that the information suggesting that the said son of Atiku was the same person that represented him at the South West PDP unification rally in Ibadan, Oyo state is false. We have since confirmed that a different member of the Atiku family is the person so infected. The public should please ignore such unfounded rumour.”
Adisa also urged the Oyo people to be calm, observe high standard of hygiene and stay safe.
