Fake Reports: No Legislators Tested Positive for Coronavirus –House of Reps
Report that 15 members of the House of Representatives have tested positive for coronavirus is fake news.
This assertion was made on Tuesday by the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu (APC-Abia).
Kalu who spoke with journalists said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, could not confirm that any member tested positive.
According to him, until a genuine commission like the NCDC confirmed such reports, it would be wrong to conclude that the claim was true.
The spokesman also faulted the report that legislators refused to be tested.
He said the letter trending online to that effect could not have originated from the Presidency as it was claimed.
He said letters of that nature were always read on the floor of the House but in the case of the one trending online, nothing of such happened.
It would be recalled that the House of Representatives adjourned for two weeks as a precautionary measure against the spread of the disease.
Said the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, while announcing the break: “This is not a holiday, but a decision necessary to observe social distancing and isolation guidelines that have proven to be effective in preventing secondary transmission of the COVID-19 disease.”
