COVID-19: 4 Governors in Self-isolation, More May Follow Suit

Some governors have tried to lead by example as the corona viral infection cases in Nigeria jumped to 51 on Wednesday.

They went into self-isolation having had physical contact with persons who tested positive for the virus.

The governors include Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, both of who had contact with the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Kyari tested positive to the virus after returning from an official trip to Germany.

The other governors in self-isolation are Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who confirmed that he had contact with his Bauchi State counterpart, and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, who tweeted that he attended meetings with two coronavirus positive persons.

Nasarawa State’s Commissioner of Health, Ahmad Yahaya, disclosed his boss’ decision to self-isolate to Channels Television in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday.

Yahaya also told the popular television channel that the deputy Governor and some of the governor’s close aides had told their boss that they too would like to self-isolate.

While the Commissioner confirmed that Governor Sule had contact with Abba Kyari at the wedding ceremony of the son of the Inspector General of Police, on March 14, he would not tell if his boss’s blood sample had been sent to the laboratory for testing.

Unlike his Nasarawa colleague, Governor Obaseki said he had sent his blood sample for testing.

The governors, individually assured their citizens that there was no cause to panic as the situation was under control; and the nation would eventually defeat the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
