The Presidency has banned condolence visits to the Presidency and family of the departed Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency said the ban was in consonance with the protocols set by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and the Federal Ministry of Health relating to social distancing.
With the burial of Kyari at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja, midday, Saturday, the statement said “the burial marks the end of all ceremonies and there will be no condolence visits to family and the Presidency.”
“Well-wishers and all other Nigerians are instead advised to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Chief of Staff,” the statement continued, adding that a condolence register would be opened at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, ) from Sunday “for those who are able to use the window permitted for movement by the FCT administration.”
Mr. Kyari succumbed to the coronavirus pandemic on Friday in Lagos and his remains were flown to Abuja for burial early Saturday.
Since Kyari’s demise, there has been a flurry of condolences from the nation’s high and mighty, with many recalling the Borno-born’s life and times.
