Impossible! Members Of Same Family Can’t Get Conditional Cash Transfer – FG
By Timothy Ojo
Two persons in the same family cannot receive the Conditional Cash Transfer on-going in many states, the Federal Government revealed on Tuesday.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, brought this to light at the daily briefing on COVID-19 updates in Abuja.
Umar-Farouq also said the government is focused on digitalising the CCT scheme and had already started getting Bank Verification Number of beneficiaries alongside their cell numbers so as to be transparent in the whole process.
When claims were made that two members were paid N20,000 each, the minister vehemently rebutted the claims, saying it would be easier for a camel to pass through a needle than for that to happen.
Umar-Farouq said, “This is near impossible because the process involved is a very tedious one, where all critical stakeholders in the community are involved.
“The faith-based organisations, leaders of the community and other stakeholders are the ones who came up with the list of those to benefit from the intervention in that particular community.
“And if you go through the list, every particular household must be captured in all three or four of the lists being managed by that community.
“So it is almost impossible for the same members of a household to get this intervention.”
However, she said her ministry would look keenly into the claims, but she maintained her stance that it was impossible for that to happen.
