Ibadan Explosion: Bola Ige, Ex-Deputy Governor, Others Lose Homes
The late Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Bola Ige’s house was also affected by the explosion that rocked the city of Ibadan Tuesday night.
Our source in Ibadan disclosed that apart from Ige’s house former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun, and some members of his family have been displaced as a result ofthe explosion..
Some houses owned by staff members of the University of Ibadan were also reported to have been shattered by the explosion by resulted from stock-pilling explosive gadgets by illegal miners in a house around Bodija.
The former deputy governor, Oladokun and his family members are currently being housed by a friend. A close associate of the former deputy governor, in a short statement, said the man is terribly devastated by the strange incident.
“The house of the former deputy governor of Oyo State is located in the area where the incident occurred,” the source said. “It is close to the building where the explosion occurred. They have vacated the house.”
Our correspondent also gathered that the home of the former Attorney General of the Federation, late Chief Bola Ige, was also affected. Another source added that the houses of some staff members of the University of Ibadan were affected.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the deployment of their tactical teams to the scene of the explosion that happened around the Bodija axis of Ibadan.
A signed statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the explosion occurred around Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija Ibadan. He added, “the cause of the explosion is unknown.”
“Number of dead and injured could not be immediately ascertained from the scene as at the time the Police and other security services visited last night. Intensive search continues this morning,” the statement said.
“The Oyo State Police Command has ample deployment to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”
